Wayne Rooney aims dig at Liverpool fans after making Premier League title admission

Wayne Rooney has had a dig at Liverpool after admitting he wants to see Manchester City win the Premier League title ahead of Jurgen Klopp's side.

Now on the books of MLS side DC United, the former Everton and Manchester United striker has watched on from afar as the Reds fight it out with Pep Guardiola's side at the top of the table.

While it pains him to see his former clubs' fiercest rivals challenging for the title, he conceded he deems Manchester City the lesser of two evils and, as a boyhood Blues fan, couldn't bear to see Liverpool finish the season as champions.

And when explaining his reasoning on TalkSPORT, the former England international took aim at Reds fans and their 2005 Champions League Final triumph over AC Milan.

"It's a great reason to be out the country when those two are going head-to-head for the title," Rooney joked.

"I hope Man City get over the line before Liverpool. I couldn't bear to see them win it, it would be a nightmare for any Evertonian.
