Wayne Pivac has gone and the new boss has just reached the Super Rugby final - So who is running the Scarlets?

The Scarlets' players arrived for pre-season earlier this week and just days later their soon-to-be head coach Brad Mooar was helping the Crusaders reach a 14th Super Rugby final.

It begs the question, just who is running things down west?

Mooar is currently in the final knockings of his role with Super Rugby's most successful side, where he is assistant to head coach Scott Robertson.

The Crusaders beat the Hurricanes 30-26 this morning in a gripping semi-final final in Christchurch. They now await the Jaguares next week.

You'd be forgiven for thinking that the Crusaders' progression to the season finale would delay Mooar's arrival in west Wales by another week. But you'd be wrong.

The plan all along has been for Mooar, along with incoming defence coach Glenn Delaney joining from the Highlanders, to start their roles at the end of July.

The Crusaders reaching the final will have no effect on that.

The feeling at the Scarlets is that, with next season kicking off a month later, Mooar will have plenty of time to put his stamp on things.

Also, during the first few weeks of pre-season, the main focus is conditioning and whipping the players back into shape for the season ahead. A head coach not being present will not have a great deal of impact on that.

It's also worth considering that much of the Scarlets squad are also not present because of their Wales commitments.

But Mooar's absence, and Delaney's to some extent, has left a bit of a power vacuum at the region.

Wayne Pivac and Stephen Jones have now left their roles as they prepare to take up jobs with Wales after the Rugby World Cup.

Byron Hayward also gone with his future still not set in stone, though he is expected to follow Pivac to the national setup.

As for the Scarlets, for now, head of strength and conditioning Huw Davies is working with the players that are left as they begin their usual pre-season preparations.

Dai Flanagan, who will replace Stephen Jones as attack coach next season, is also present along with continuing forwards coach Ioan Cunningham.

Richard Whiffin, who joins from Gloucester's academy to be assistant backs coach next year, is also expected to arrive in the near future.

But new boss Mooar won't be arriving for another month and he may be coming on a high with the Crusaders due to face the Jaguares in the Super Rugby final next Saturday.
