Wayne McCullough open to exhibition fight with Mexican legend

Wayne McCullough says he would be open to returning to the ring in an exhibition fight.

Legendary boxers Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jnr recently laced up the gloves to fight each other.

Other iconic names such as Evander Holyfield and Oscar De Lay Hoya have also expressed an interest in coming out of retirement.

McCullough says he has already spoken to former rival and Mexican ring legend Erik Morales about putting a show on for fans.

They fought back in October 1999, with Morales claiming a unanimous decision victory at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

Speaking to Belfast Live, McCullough said: "The truth is I threw it out to Carl (Frampton) last year. I was joking with him that we could do an exhibition match back in Ireland. Just an exhibition.

"I have been talking to (Erik) Morales, and he said we could do one as well. But he is a bit bigger at the minute.

"Fans love exhibition matches, and you are getting the 'legends' coming back. Tyson v Roy Jones was a big sell-out, obviously not with fans but on pay-per-view. It went well."

He added: "I am never out of shape. If Morales wants to do it, I'd love to do it with him. He says he needs to lose a few pounds for it, and I joked that I would train him to fight me.

"Me and Morales fought 21 years ago, and we stood toe-to-toe for 12 rounds, and he says it was one of his toughest fights. The respect we had after that was unbelievable."
