Wayne Ellington ‘closing in’ on an agreement with Pistons

As a sideshow to their brutal schedule and their quest to get to the playoffs, the Lakers open roster spot has become the focus of intrigue. Although they’re showing an interest in Markieff Morris, several of the other potential candidates for the 15th roster spot are already off the board.

Sharpshooting guard Wayne Ellington is the latest to come off the Lakers free agent board, as he will sign with the Detroit Pistons after being released by the Phoenix Suns, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Ellington was traded to Phoenix from Miami along with Tyler Johnson earlier this week. Ellington will join former Laker Svi Mykhailliuk in Detroit as they will both look to replace the production of Reggie Bullock, who was traded to the Lakers on Tuesday.

Ellington, like Wesley Matthews, appears to have valued a bigger role and a clearer path to playing time than he would have had with the Lakers who have Bullock, Josh Hart and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope all in the fold.
