Wayne Bridge names his number one candidate for Tottenham job amid Fonseca’s potential arrival

Former Chelsea defender Wayne Bridge has suggested that current Fulham boss Scott Parker should be in contention for the vacant managerial position at Tottenham Hotspur.

Ever since sacking Jose Mourinho in April, the north London outfit have found it tough to appoint a successor.

Numerous names have been linked with the role, none more so than former Inter Milan head coach Antonio Conte, who was close to taking the reins only for the deal to fall through.

Meanwhile, talks had also been held with Mauricio Pochettino regarding a return to north London.

The latest candidate in the frame is now Paulo Fonseca. football.london understands that the former Roma boss is Fabio Paratici’s number one target to become the new Spurs boss.

Despite that, Bridge believes that Parker, who despite leading Fulham to relegation in his first season in the Premier League, should certainly be a candidate for the job at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Speaking to BettingExpert.com, he said: “I’d like to see Scott Parker get the job - not just as he’s a friend of mine, but for me he really impressed at Fulham with his style of play - and he played for Spurs.

“I would give him a go to implement his methods at a massive club.”

Meanwhile, Bridge also offered his assessment on Spurs’ failure to secure a deal for Conte and could understand supporters’ current frustrations.

“Antonio Conte seems to do well wherever he goes, but clearly felt Spurs were not for him. It’s Tottenham,” he continued.

“They’re going to need to spend a bit of money, so it’s not going to be an easy, straightforward job whoever takes it. At this moment in time, as a Spurs fan, I don’t think you’re that happy.”
