Former Chelsea and England defender Wayne Bridge has revealed his belief that Frank Lampard can lead Chelsea to Premier League glory this season, despite critics hoping for failure.
The Blues have made a strong start to the campaign and currently sit third in the league table, with Lampard's side aiming to secure a first domestic crown since 2017.
Bridge, who made 142 appearances for Chelsea during a five-and-a-half year spell at the club, has backed his former teammate to keep the club firmly in the title race until the very end.
“To be honest a lot of people are probably a little bit jealous of him getting the job so early, and a lot of people are hoping he doesn't do well," Bridge told The Sun.
“There's always jealous people out there. People wanted to write him off straight away, maybe because he was such a good player.
“I'm buzzing for him. I'd love to see him go and win it this year, love it.
“They're definitely capable of challenging, 100 per cent. I would like to think they go and win it. They are contenders, I think they look good.
“Mourinho looks like he's his old self again, but I don't want Spurs to win it. I played for Chelsea, it's Spurs isn't it - most people don't want to see Spurs win it to be honest.
“I'd love to see Lamps win it, and he's got a great chance. The squad they've got, and don't forget a lot of these players only signed this year and it does take a while to settle.
“They are going to be even better next year when the players have settled down more. But they are settling in alright and they look good. He's got a good squad there.”
Chelsea returned to Premier League action on Saturday evening, coming from behind to beat Leeds United at Stamford Bridge to move top of the table above Spurs.
However, Tottenham could go back above Chelsea with a positive result against Arsenal in the North London Derby this afternoon.
