Wayne Brady injured at 'Hamilton' matinee

CHICAGO _ The actor Wayne Brady, who plays Aaron Burr in the Chicago production of "Hamilton," sustained a minor leg injury Saturday during a matinee performance of the show in downtown Chicago and had to leave the stage during the first few minutes of the first act.

He was replaced by an understudy for the remainder of the performance.

According to audience members who contacted the Tribune, Brady disappeared into the wings after about the first 10 minutes and was replaced without any immediate explanation, causing some confusion as to where he had gone.

An announcement of the casting change was made at intermission, which is standard practice to avoid interrupting the show. Brady is new to the production; he has been in the show for just one week after replacing Joshua Henry.

According to a spokesman for Broadway in Chicago, Brady sustained an injury to his calf, and was already back in the show by Saturday night. He returned to the show again on Sunday and is to perform, as scheduled, on Tuesday.
