'Way too many people and not a lot of social distancing': Beauty spots and beaches packed out on Bank Holiday Monday

Pictures taken around England today show packed beaches and beauty spots as Brits rushed to make the most of the Bank Holiday Monday sunshine.

They included queues of traffic and cars lining the road to Dovestone Reservoir, near Oldham, as families rushed to take advantage of the warm weather.

Sophie Beachey, who took the photos, said cars were parked all along the road leading to the popular spot.

She said: "I didn’t even consider venturing towards Dovestones way too many people and not a lots of social distancing going on."

Elsewhere in the country, pictures taken on Brighton Beach show it heaving with people, as temperatures hit around 21 degrees.

It was a similar scene in Bournemouth, where the beach was packed with sunbathers.

In Formby meanwhile, photos showed queues to get into a busy car park at Freshfield Beach.

While in Salford, a group of 'around 30 people' were seen gathering at Salford Quays climbing up the bridge and jumping in the canal.

Lockdown measures were slightly eased in England earlier this month, to allow the public to meet up outside with one other person from outside their household, while observing social distancing.

In Wales today, where more stringent lockdown measures are still in place, Llandudno promenade appeared to be much quieter than some English beaches.

Exercising more than once a day, as well as sunbathing, is also now allowed.

The message to 'stay at home' was also replaced with 'stay alert'.
