A 38-year-old Watson man will face court over a series of driving charges including driving disqualified and driving with a two-year-old without an appropriate car seat.
At 5.55 pm on January 30, police allegedly saw a Mercedes sedan on Flemington Road accelerate quickly at a set of traffic lights.
ACT Policing estimated the vehicle was travelling 70 km/h above the speed limit.
Police then performed a traffic stop on the vehicle at Wimmera Street, Harrison, where officers learned the driver was disqualified.
His vehicle was unregistered, uninsured and displayed incorrect registration plates, police said.
Officers also found the driver's two-year-old child in the rear passenger seat.
The child was allegedly only wearing a lap-sash seatbelt rather than an appropriate car seat for young children.
ACT Policing alleged the man did not provide a compelling or lawful reason for driving the child without a car seat.
The driver will be issued a summons to face court at a later date.
The 38-year-old will face charges of speeding, drive while disqualified, driving unregistered, driving while uninsured, number plates calculated to deceive, and driving with an improperly restrained child.
ACT Policing reminded parents to ensure young children travelled in an appropriate car seat.
