Watford vs Newcastle United team news as Joe Willock make surprise start

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce made a shock U-turn ahead of the clash against Watford - by naming Joe Willock in his starting line-up.

The selection came 24 hours after Bruce had publicly ruled Willock out of the encounter at Vicarage Road.

Bruce said yesterday that Willock would not play after stubbing a toe in training and requiring a protective boot.

However, after the Press conference, Willock was then declared available by medics and wanted to give things a go in Hertfordshire.

However, Willock started the encounter against the Hornets but there was no place for Jamaal Lascelles who was missing with a muscle injury.

The former Nottingham Forest man was replaced by Federico Fernandez.

Newcastle also stuck with Joelinton in the starting X1 with Allan Saint-Maximin leading the line of attack once more.

Bruce also named youngster Elliot Anderson on the bench while Joe White made the squad but missed out on a substitute role after Willock's shock return.
