Watford vs Chelsea temporarily suspended due to medical emergency after fan suffers cardiac arrest

Chelsea’s game with Watford was paused after a supporter suffered a cardiac arrest in the crowd.

Play was stopped after around 13 minutes of the Premier League tie at Vicarage Road as emergency medical staff attended to the stricken fan.

Both sets of players were told to leave the pitch with the score still goalless, with referee David Coote opting call a halt to play.

Members of both medical teams assisted in trying to treat the fan in the upper tier of the Graham Taylor Stand while worried supporters watched on around the stadium.

After a break of around 20 minutes, the fan was stabilised and carried by stretcher away from the stand.

The players re-entered the pitch at 8.05pm for a short warm-up before the game was resumed.

The stadium announcer confirmed that the fan had suffered a cardiac arrest, but was now receiving further treatment and was reportedly stabilised by medics.
