Watford vs Arsenal predictions as pundits back more away day misery for Unai Emery

Arsenal secured a fine win on Thursday in the Europa League by beating Napoli 2-0 in the first leg of their quarter-final showdown.

That gives the Gunners a strong platform heading into next week’s reverse fixture in Naples but it is back to Premier League duty this week, with another difficult test on the road against FA Cup finalists Watford.

Unai Emery’s side saw their advantage in the top-four race slip following defeat at Goodison Park to Everton last weekend and Arsenal have a woeful record of failing to keep a clean sheet away from home in the league this term.

With another away game this weekend against a strong Watford side, it is another game where the Gunners can slip - and former Arsenal defender Paul Merson believes that will happen, as he has tipped Watford to win.

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen also believes Arsenal could encounter problems, predicting a draw, while ex-Reds defender Mark Lawrenson shares better news as he thinks the Gunners will take all three points.

You can see what they had to say below.

FA Cup finalists Watford won the corresponding fixture against Arsenal last season 2-1 and I think they will give Unai Emery’s side plenty to think about in a game sandwiched in-between the Gunners’ Europa League quarter-final ties with Napoli.

Vicarage Road is sure to be bouncing after the Hornets’ tremendous Wembley comeback and the Gunners’ have yet to keep a clean sheet on the road so far this league season.

If there is to be a winner on Monday night I feel it will be the hosts.

Arsenal are away again - and surely they cannot be any worse than they were at Everton last weekend?

I actually think the Gunners will win this one, although that has nothing to do with their form - they have only beaten bottom side Huddersfield on the road since the end of November.

It is more to do with the fact I don't think we will see quite the same intensity from Watford with the FA Cup final only a few weeks away.

That is going to be a special day for lots of their players and it would be understandable if they were distracted by it. If it takes 5% off the team's performance on Monday, then that is all Arsenal would need to take advantage.

You just don't know what you're going to get with Arsenal. You watched the way they played against Everton and you'd have thought they were in a relegation battle.

That was poor for a team that was trying to consolidate their position in the top four. They'd have probably been there had they won that game. There's just nothing there.

Alexandre Lacazette reveals why Arsenal's home and away form differs so much

They can win 10 games on the trot at home, but they haven't kept a clean sheet away from home in the league all season.

Watford usually bully them, and Arsenal will have their minds on the Napoli game at the same time. I fancy a home win, as I think Arsenal have bigger fish to fry.

You've seen what the pundits have had to say, now it's time to make your predictions!
