Watford taunt Matteo Guendouzi on Twitter after '2-1' gesture backfires following Arsenal's collapse

Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi paid the price for a cheeky gesture to the Watford fans after the Gunners' second-half collapse at Vicarage Road.

The 20-year-old appeared to signal the score '2-1' with his fingers after being booed when substituted in the second half.

At that point, Arsenal were leading thanks to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's first-half double and looking in control.

That was until Tom Cleverley seized on an error from Sokratis Papastathopoulos to grab a lifeline for the hosts.

Guendouzi had already been booked following a heated exchange with Watford's Jose Holebas and received a hostile reception from the supporters when he headed towards the bench.

The Frenchman then aimed a brazen jibe at the fans, prompting more jeers from the home section.

But Watford had the last laugh when Roberto Pereyra salvaged a point from the penalty spot and even the home side could have won it had Abdoulaye Doucoure taken his chance in stoppage time.

And the club's Twitter account couldn't resist taking a swipe at the young midfielder, with an image of Guendouzi captioned with a star and two emojis to represent the 2-2 scoreline.

Guendouzi learned the hard way that as the old adage goes, a 2-0 scoreline is never safe in football.
