Watford striker launches defence of Manchester United star Paul Pogba

Watford’s Andre Gray has hit back at critics of Manchester United star Paul Pogba, explaining how the midfielder is so difficult to play against.

Pogba is often targeted by some pundits for criticism, with the perception that the Frenchman has under-performed during his time at United. He's endured some up-and-down form since playing a pivotal role in France's journey to lift the 2018 World Cup.

In recent months Pogba has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, but Gray - who has played against the United star on numerous occasion - insists his abilities should not be questioned.

Speaking to  Threesixtytv, Gray said: “People talk about Pogba and it annoys me.

"Whenever I’ve played against Pogba, four or five times now, no-one can get near him.

“He might not set the world on fire and score top-corner goals.

“But you cannot get near the kid – he’s always somewhere you’re not and you can’t fathom it.

"Until you’re on the pitch with him, you’ll never understand. From the stands it’s like ‘oh, he’s turned him’. When you play the game and understand the midfield positions, you cannot fathom him.”

Pogba continues to be touted for a possible move to either Real Madrid or Juvenuts, with his United contract expiring in June 2021, although the club have the option to trigger an extra 12 months.

The 27-year-old has missed much of the season after having ankle surgery, though could play a part if and when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side resume their season over the summer.
