Watford stopper Ben Foster wins Goalkeeper of the Year at London Football Awards

Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster has been named Goalkeeper of the Year at the London Football Awards in Battersea.

The 35-year-old has been in excellent form in his second spell at the Hornets, having signed following West Brom’s relegation at the end of last season, and has played every minute in the Premier League.

QPR stopper Joe Lumley and Charlton ‘keeper Dillon Phillips were also nominated, alongside West Ham’s Lukasz Fabianski, who like Foster has sparkled since moving clubs in the summer.

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga completed the five-man shortlist, which was named before his EFL Cup final substitution row with Maurizio Sarri.

The awards, which celebrate the best of London football in the 2018/19 season, are voted for by a panel of 22 experts from across the football industry, including ex-players such as Bobby Zamora, Bob Wilson and Tony Cottee.

Last season’s award went to Brentford ‘keeper Daniel Bentley, but he was not even among the nominees this time around.
