Watford starlet hoping to follow in the footsteps of Richarlison at Vicarage Road

Joao Pedro is hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow Brazilian Richarlison by becoming a star at Watford.

The 19-year-old forward, who was being tracked by Barcelona and Liverpool before he signed for the Hornets, has started the season in fine form and scored the winner in the derby against Luton Town last month.

Like Richarlison, Pedro moved to Watford from Fluminense and he is now aiming to follow in the footsteps of his fellow Brazilian forward by replicating his performances on the pitch.

“Richarlison was a big player here and I recognise that,” said Pedro.

“Something he did was get to a better level [of performance]. While he was here he took advantage of the training and the games.

“That is exactly what I want to do here. He adapted and that is what I want to do.”

Pedro is expected to start tonight as Watford head to Derby and the teenager is set to face 34-year-old Wayne Rooney, who he grew up watching.

“It is going to be a huge experience for me,” said Pedro. “Back in Brazil I remember watching Wayne Rooney. It is going to be a huge experience and I am 100 per cent focused on the game.”
