Watford set for revenue boost as they agree to swap Adidas for Kelme in new £10m kit deal

Watford have agreed a new four-year kit deal with Chinese-owned manufacturers Kelme worth around £10million.

The Hornets, whose three-year deal with Adidas expires at the end of this month, will see their payments rise from £750,000-a-season under the current deal to £2.5m.

With the coronavirus pandemic exposing the weakness of football's over-reliance on broadcast revenue - Watford's latest accounts showed that 84 per cent of their revenue came from broadcasters - any new sources of income will be welcomed more than ever.

Kelme, founded in Spain but now under Chinese ownership, also provide kits to Alaves and Espanyol in La Liga, while it is hoped that their smaller portfolio will offer the chance to create a more unique strip than with Adidas, who have more higher-profile clients to consider.

With the Premier League season - should it be completed - set to run past the end of Watford's deal with Adidas, it is understood that the Hornets will complete the season in their current kit before donning the new Kelme strip at the start of the 2020-21 campaign.
