Watford's taunting message to Everton, Wolves and Leicester backfires following Arsenal defeat

Watford's social media team may be regretting sending a playful tweet ahead of their defeat to Arsenal on Monday night.

The post by the FA Cup finalist' Twitter account soon backfired as the Gunners won 1-0 at Vicarage Road.

With the seventh-place chasers all losing at the weekend, the London club sent out a Brexit-themed tweet aimed at their Premier League rivals.

The post had a cross mark next to Everton, Wolves and Leicester's respective names and read: "Are we the only ones in this country actually wanting to get into Europe?"

Watford's admin was clearly trolling Everton who lost 2-0 away to Fulham, Wolves who were beaten 3-1 by Southampton and Leicester who were defeated 1-0 by Newcastle.

Football fans immediately predicted victory for Arsenal and there were some comical responses to the post.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored his 18th goal of the season and the game ended in defeat for Javi Gracia's side.

Supporters of the aforementioned clubs the tweet had targeted in jest quickly got involved.

One Everton fan wrote: "Congratulations for becoming the first side Arsenal have managed a clean sheet against away from home".
