Watford record signing Ismaila Sarr edging closer to debut after training ahead of West Ham clash

Ismaila Sarr is progressing well towards making his Watford debut after taking part in full training for the first time on Tuesday.

Winger Sarr moved to Vicarage Road on transfer deadline day earlier this month, arriving from Rennes for a club-record fee in the region of £30million.

However, the 21-year-old arrived at Watford fresh from a holiday off the back of competing in the Africa Cup of Nations for Senegal.

It meant Sarr had not taken part in any pre-season training and consequently the Hornets have been carefully managing his workload.

The winger spent last week completing his own individual programme as the rest of the squad prepared to take on Everton.

Sarr, however, has now finished that schedule and on Tuesday he trained with his new team-mates for the first time.

The 21-year-old will now be pushing towards making his debut for Watford, but the club will continue to manage his workload and are unlikely to rush him.

Sarr’s arrival has caused excitement among the Watford fans but also the players too, with midfielder Etienne Capoue admitting he is well aware of the winger’s ability.

“All the French boys know him for two years and we know he is a very young talent,” he told Watford’s website.

“We are very glad he signed for Watford. He feels very happy to start the season with us and he's a very happy guy who now just wants to show what he can do on the pitch.”
