Watford investigating alleged incident of homophobic chanting during Southampton clash

Watford are looking into an alleged incident of homophobic chanting at Vicarage Road during Saturday’s match against Southampton.

The incident was raised by a supporter and the club are working with them to identify the individuals responsible.

Watford have a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination and they launched the We Campaign back in 2019.

It involves the club working with the hate crime unit at Hertfordshire Police to encourage inclusivity and tackle social media discrimination and abuse directly.

The club also has the Watford Welcomes initiative, which was launched at the start of the 2018/19 season and reinforces the club’s commitment to working towards equality, diversity and inclusion.

In a statement on social media, Watford wrote: “We are aware of an incident of homophobic chanting at Saturday’s match.

“We have spoken to the supporter who reported this and are working with them to identify the individuals responsible.

“We reiterate our zero-tolerance approach to discrimination and how to report it.”
