Watford are closing in on their first January signing after agreeing an €8million (£6.8m) fee for Udinese winger Ignacio Pussetto.
The 24-year-old flew to London with his agent on Monday night and was due to undergo a medical at Watford’s training base on Tuesday morning.
Pussetto has caught the eye at Udinese, who, like the Hornets, are owned by the Pozzo family.
The deal will be Watford’s first signing under new head coach Nigel Pearson and improves their options out wide.
So far Gerard Deulofeu and Ismaila Sarr have been used on the flanks, but Pussetto will act as strong competition alongside Roberto Pereyra.
However, Pussetto’s arrival raises questions about Isaac Success’ future as the Nigerian has already struggled for minutes so far this season.
Watford are not expected to be overly active during the transfer window but, as shown by this move, they will act if a deal is there to be done.
The club are also exploring the possibility of bringing in a left-back and Fulham’s Joe Bryan is a viable target.
A new centre-back is also on the cards, however that area of the team may not be strengthened until the summer.
Pussetto’s arrival will be a welcome boost in Watford’s push for Premier League survival and he could even make his debut against Tottenham this weekend if talks are wrapped up swiftly.
