Watford captain Troy Deeney says he is not going to actively look to leave the club following their relegation to the Championship.
The Hornets’ five-year stay in the Premier League was ended this season after they were beaten by Arsenal on the final day of the campaign.
In the wake of that, doubts have grown over several players’ futures and Deeney himself has been linked with a move away, with Tottenham mooted as a possible destination.
The 32-year-old striker, who underwent knee surgery after the season finished, has been at Watford for 10 years after joining from Walsall for around £500,000.
Deeney has gone on to become the club’s captain and talisman and, despite their relegation, he has vowed not to force a move.
“This is my club, I’ve been there 10 years now,” Deeney told talkSPORT. “I am not going to actively look to leave or anything of that nature.
“I was talking to the missus about it yesterday, I had an opportunity to go to Leicester when they had just won the [Premier] League. Obviously it was Champions League football.
“I never asked to leave then. So why would I ask to leave now? Do you know what I mean?
“If the club decide that we need to go our separate ways, it is what it is. I am a big boy. I can take it on the chin.”
Watford are back in training now and have begun life under new head coach Vladimir Ivic.
Deeney said: “He’s coached us really well the first few days and none of the boys are moaning, which is good.”
