Watford can secure Europa League football without suspended Troy Deeney, insists Javi Gracia

Javi Gracia is confident Watford can secure European football despite being without captain Troy Deeney for half of their remaining four games.

Deeney was shown a straight red card last week during the home defeat to Arsenal.

Watford appealed against the decision but the striker’s three game ban was upheld and he served the first match on Saturday.

The club coped without Deeney then, beating Huddersfield 2-1 away, but must manage without their top scorer for Tuesday's game against Southampton and Saturday’s clash with Wolves.

It is a blow for Gracia’s side, who can secure Europa League football by either defeating Manchester City in the FA Cup Final or finishing seventh in the League.

Gracia said: “There are many leaders in the team, not only Troy.

“I am not obessed with knowing how many points we will need. My players deserve to enjoy every game and we will see.”

Probable Watford XI (4-4-2): Foster; Janmaat, Kabasele, Cathcart, Masina; Hughes, Doucoure, Capoue, Pereyra; Deulofeu, Gray.

Probable Southampton XI (4-3-3): Gunn; Valery, Yoshida, Bednarek, Bertrand; Ward-Prowse, Romeu, Hojbjerg; Armstrong, Long, Redmond.
