Vladimir Ivic has been sacked by Watford after just four months in charge.
Ivic's future was hanging in the balance following a bust-up that led to captain Troy Deeney being dropped for the 2-0 defeat by Huddersfield.
Ivic axed Deeney for what he described after the game as 'discipline issues'.
But the move left Vicarage Road bigwigs unimpressed and the axe was wielded on the Serb.
The Championship club released a short statement reading: "Watford FC confirms the departure of Head Coach Vladimir Ivic with immediate effect.
"Ivic's coaching staff will also be leaving Vicarage Road.
"The Hornets thank Ivic and his staff for their efforts this season and wish them well for future success elsewhere.
"No further comment is available from the club."
Ivic discussed his decision to drop Deeney after the Huddersfield game, saying: "First of all, he didn't start the game because he played the previous four games for 90 minutes.
"And we know he didn't work with the team and he came from the injury after a long period and I believe that he was not ready to play from the beginning.
"Why he didn't come from the bench, this is another question, because of some discipline issues."
Pressed on the matter, he added: "This is between us, and I don't want to speak about some things to the media.
"I said from the first day, I'm here to do my best and to work to do what's best for the club, together with my players.
"Nobody and no one can be above the club in my team when I'm coach."
