Watford boss Claudio Ranieri admits interest in signing Liverpool star

Watford head coach Claudio Ranieri has publicly spoken out on his admiration for Liverpool defender Nat Phillips.

Phillips, who is rumoured to be keen on a move away from Merseyside this month has featured just four times due to the return of formidable Reds' centre-back, Virgil van Dijk.

Coupled with a recent cheekbone fracture to contend with too, the former Bolton Wanderers youngster is however still under contract with Jurgen Klopp's side until 2025.

Valued at £15million, Watford are one of the clubs taking a keen interest in the defender, with the transfer market still open for clubs to do business within until the end of the month.

The Hornets boss was posed the question ahead of his sides clash with Norwich City and spoke out regarding the ongoing rumours linking him with 24-year-old centre back.

''I like, a lot, Phillips,'' began the former Leicester City manager.

''Now we are very very full of defenders. Until the end of the market, anything could happen.''

With the Reds also recalling fellow defender Rhys Williams from his loan spell with Swansea City earlier today, Jurgen Klopp would be happy to allow Phillips to leave the club this month.

Watford are seemingly aiming to sure up their defence having conceded 37 goals so far this season, with the former Stuttgart loanee featuring heavily in helping Liverpool secure a top four finish last season.

But with time ticking until the end of the window, Ranieri will have to act fast in order to secure the signature of the young Reds defender.
