Watford aim dig at ex-manager Marco Silva with reply to Gary Lineker tweet

Watford had thinly-veiled dig at former manager Marco Silva on a day when reports suggested he is under pressure at Everton.

Silva is said to be under increasing scrutiny after Everton lost 2-1 at Southampton on Saturday and dropped into the bottom half of the table.

Watford, meanwhile, are seventh under Javi Gracia and their Twitter account today brought up an old tweet from Gary Lineker which described their decision to sack Silva as “absurd”.

Lineker tweeted last January: “Absurd decision, in my opinion, by Watford to fire Marco Silva after his first bad run. He’ll be snapped up very quickly and Watford will almost certainly get someone less talented.”

Watford brought the tweet back up today and said, “This aged well..” with an image of Gracia shrugging his shoulders.

Silva was only appointed at Everton in June after an acrimonious dispute with Watford. The Hornets made a formal complaint to the Premier League over Everton's approach to him when he was still in charge at Vicarage Road.

But Silva has struggled to make an impact at Goodson Park and Everton owner Farhad Moshiri said recently that the club’s league position “was not good enough”.
