Waterloo Road fans 'p****d off' as huge change is made for reboot as they plead with other viewers

Fans of Waterloo Road have found themselves pleading with other viewers after a huge change was made to the rebooted series. Those who watched the school-based drama the first time around were thrilled in 2021 when the BBC announced it would be reviving the show.

The new series marks Waterloo Road's first return to screens in almost eight years after it was axed. The show, which ran from 2006 to 2015, was first filmed at Hill Top Primary School in Rochdale before relocating to Scotland. And the reboot has seen the team return to Greater Manchester.

And while it is a new series, the new era of Waterloo Road also features original cast members including Adam Thomas, who has reprised the role of former bad boy pupil-turned-parent Donte Charles, and his on-screen partner Chlo, played by Katie Griffiths, as well as Angela Griffin as the school's new head teacher, Kim Campbell.

Warning: Spoilers...

Episode one of the eleventh series kicked off on Tuesday night (January 3) with an hour-long episode on BBC One. And the action got underway almost instantly as the new intake of pupils angrily protested over the school being named William Beswick High School over its namesake's connections to the slave trade.

Fans were also thrilled to see Donte and Chlo all grown up and now as parents to Izzie, played by Adam's real-life niece Scarlett Thomas, and their son Tommy, played by Adam's son Teddy. Donte watched as his daughter headed off for her first day in year nine at her new school, which was later renamed to Waterloo Road after the students' paint-filled protest.

But in the midst of the protest, which caused traffic chaos outside the school, Chlo was knocked over as she walked the rest of the journey to her planned meeting at the school a few steps behind her daughter. Luckily, Chlo appeared fine with just a sprained wrist and despite getting the date of her meeting wrong, was keen to pitch her animal therapy idea to her former teacher.

After returning home later in the day to her worried husband Donte, Chlo revealed she had realised she wanted become a teaching assistant at the school. After enjoying a family meal of fish and chips, a tragic turn of events saw Chlo collapse in the kitchen. As Donte shouted for his daughter to phone and ambulance, the dad and his kids were soon seen arriving at the hospital.

And in a shock ending, Donte was delivered the devastating news that Chlo had died and viewers watched as he and his children sobbed in the corridor of the hospital. While many were left gutted by the news, others were furious as they found out what had happened before it aired.

This is because the whole series had been put on BBC iPlayer earlier in the day, meaning fans could binge-watch the whole series. However, not everyone could get around to watching all of it, or didn't want to and wanted to watch it as it officially hit the small screen at 8pm.

So it's fair to say, they're not happy. @alexmkalimina said: "Was not a good idea to post all the episodes on iPlayer.2 @GeekygalAmber tweeted: "iPlayer did the wrong thing putting all the episodes of #Waterlooroad on before the premiere. I'm p****d off because someone has already spoilt the second episode for me before I've had chance to see the first!"

@myansweryunho complained: "So p****d off that they’ve put the whole series on iplayer, just seen a major spoiler i’m fuming #waterlooroad." @CafcBen2021 wrote: "Why do they release everything on iplayer early. Just show it live #WaterlooRoad." @emilyjademc posted: "Omg just seen a spoiler about another old character that comes back!!! I hate iplayer it gives you no choice but to binge watch fgs #WaterlooRoad."

@DannyLew89 shared: "FFS I have seen so many big #WaterlooRoad spoilers now! Why put the boxet on all at once @BBCiPlayer @BBCOne?" @waterlooroad_4ever pleaded: "Can people stop spoiling the episodes it’s not fair on those who can’t wait the boxset or would prefer to wait. Thank you."
