Waterloo delays: Dog-chaser on tracks near train station prompts chaos with all lines shut

A man chasing his runaway dog down railway tracks reportedly prompted power to be turned off on lines near London Waterloo.

The “bizarre sight” was captured by one delayed commuter, who was among huge numbers facing delays at the busy transport hub.

Adam Willmott told the Standard: “I saw the dog first… obviously a bizarre sight.

“The owner chasing it was also very strange. The guy looked absolutely shattered and was well behind the dog.”

The incident occurred as huge delays blighted stations across the capital, with heat related issues a major sticking point.

One photo showed the dog with its owner nowhere in sight, then video showed the owner, in a light top and dark shorts, trying to catch up.

South Western Railway earlier confirmed that all lines had been blocked due to a trespasser on the tracks.

“Due to trespass on the railway between London Waterloo and Clapham Junction all lines are blocked,” a statement said. “Train services running to and from these stations may be delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until end of service.”

Services resumed at around 8.30pm.
