Waterloo delays: disruption on South Western Railway as person dies after being hit by train near Clapham Junction

Train services in and out of London Waterloo station are severely delayed after a person was hit by a train near Clapham Junction.

Emergency services were scrambled to the station at 10am on Tuesday after receiving reports of a casualty on the tracks.

A spokeswoman for the British Transport Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious

Commuters travelling on South Western Railway have been warned of disruption until the end of the day.

Trains running across the network may be cancelled, delayed or revised, the rail firm said.

BTP said: “Officers were called to Clapham Junction station at 9.58am today following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended however a person was sadly pronounced dead.The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Providing information about the service, South Western Railway said: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident earlier today at Clapham Junction, train services running across the whole South Western Railway network may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

"Disruption is expected until the end of the day.
