Waterlogging in low lying areas in Kalyan-Dombivli due to heavy rain

KALYAN: Waterlogging was reported from many low lying areas in Kalyan-Dombivli, Bhiwandi, Ulhasnagar, Badlapur and rural areas of Thane district due to heavy rain on Wednesday.

Water has started accumulating in the low-lying areas such as Dombivli station area, Dombivli MIDC, Kalyan rural, Dombivli east’s Lodha haven area.

Meanwhile, in the Netivali area of Kalyan East, water has started to enter the houses of the citizens. On the other hand, water has accumulated on the road in Adivali-Dhokali area.

The rainwater had also entered Dombivli's Manpada police station. At least two feet of water has accumulated in Manpada police station itself making policemen difficult to work. While performing their duty, the police also had to take care of the material to prevent it from getting wet in the rain water.

After heavy rains, the drain behind the police station also overflowed.

It is said that because the drains are not properly cleaned, all the water of the drain enters the police station, and at that time it becomes difficult for policemen to work.

Every year during the rainy season, the municipal corporation undertakes the work of cleaning the drains. The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation has claimed that the drainage clean up has been completed. However, it is seen that the rain that fell for two hours on Wednesday has exposed the drainage clean up work done by KDMC.

The opposition leaders claimed that tenders worth crores of rupees are issued for drainage cleaning, but there is no proper drainage clean up work. They claimed that a scam of crores of rupees is being done in the name of drainage clean up.
