Waterford to field under-19 squad against Drogheda United following close contact covid cases

Waterford FC have announced they will field their under-19 squad against Drogheda United tomorrow night after two senior players were 'deemed to be close contacts of a confirmed Covid-19 case.'

In a statement released this evening, the club said, " Waterford FC wishes to advise that two of our senior players have been deemed to be close contacts of a confirmed Covid-19 case."

"As a result, we have carried out a wide testing program of our first team. Thankfully, these tests have returned negative test results however, in keeping with our ethos of public safety and that of our club and visitors, we have made the decision to stand down our senior team for tomorrow night's visit of Drogheda United."

"Our talented under-19 squad will take to the field in the RSC to fulfil this fixture under the guidance of manager Mike Geoghegan."

Waterford currently sit bottom of the League of Ireland Premier Division and parted company with manager Kevin Sheedy on Wednesday.
