Waterford shop staff left shaken after knife-wielding man storms in and threatens workers

Staff at a Waterford City shop were left shaken after being robbed by a knife-wielding man on Saturday evening.

The suspect stormed into a garage on the Cork Road, Waterford City brandishing a knife shortly after 5pm.

The man threatened staff with the weapon before taking a sum of money and fleeing on foot.

Nobody was injured in the frightening incident in broad daylight although staff were said to be shaken.

Gardai are investigating the incident but no arrests have been made at this stage.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí in Waterford are investigating a robbery that took place at a business premises on the Cork Road, Waterford yesterday, Saturday 4 April 2020 at approximately 5pm.

What to do in an emergency situation

"A male entered the business premises with what is believed to be a knife and threated staff. He took a sum of money from the till and fled the scene on foot. No injuries were incurred during the incident.

"No damage was caused to the premises. Investigations continuing."
