Waterford's John Martin can't hide frustration at being left in limbo

John Martin is probably the most frustrated player in the League of Ireland right now.

But he won’t grumble too much as he always knew he could find himself in this predicament.

In the summer, Martin joined Bray Wanderers on loan from Waterford and made eight appearances.

But the First Division season finished last month and while Martin is back at Waterford for the last four games of the Premier Division, rules state he is not allowed to play.

Loan deals struck in the summer are until the end of the season. Only goalkeepers - in emergency situations - are allowed to move on short-term loans.

Martin said: “Unfortunately that’s my season finished. I’m in the gym, training away and watching the boys to see how they finish the season.

“We did everything we could at Bray to get the play-offs but we were four points off in the end.”

Kilkenny man Martin will soon be out of contract with Waterford but would like to stay and added: “I just have to take everything into consideration.

“There’s only so much training I can do. I might see (about Junior football for a few months) - I have a few options anyway.”
