Waterford boss Alan Reynolds fears Rory Feely could be a flight risk

Waterford boss Alan Reynolds fears Rory Feely could be a flight risk just as the Blues look to get their season back on track.

The defender impressed in last week’s 3-0 win away to St Pat’s - a grudge match considering the Saints swooped to pinch their Europa League spot this summer.

Waterford host Sligo Rovers tomorrow but Reynolds fears that other clubs could make a move for Feely.

“Against St Pat’s, I thought Rory was fantastic once again and he’s having a good time of things at the minute so I’m delighted,” he said.

“He’s been really good for us and he might get a move - that’s what I’m really worried about.

“He has a great attitude and wants to do well. I couldn’t speak any higher about him, but it’s the same with a few more of them.

“There are lads here that want to improve and that’s what we’re trying to build here.

“We’ll have our ups and downs as we keep saying, but we’ll go again for the game against Sligo.”

Reynolds was also pleased to see striker Izzy Akinade back on the scoresheet after doubling his goal tally for the season with the opener against Saints.

“When you get 1-0 up, he’s ideal for his pace and power up front on the counterattack,” said the Blues boss.

“Let’s be honest, if you see him coming, six foot three, really quick, it’s not something that you would be looking forward too.

“You could see how much that win meant to those that travelled to the game, but equally to all our fans at home.

“It’s been a hectic period for us, but we’ll take the (extra day) rest and we’ll prepare for Sligo which will be another tough game.”

The Bit O’Red head for the RSC buoyed by their 2-1 home win over league leaders Shamrock Rovers on Saturday.

Rovers boss Liam Buckley said: “We need to build on that result. We have to take every game on its merits.

“Waterford won 3-0 at St Pat’s which was a fantastic result and they played well and it’ll be a tough game down there.

“We’ll give it our best shot but we want everyone on the front foot.”

Buckley added: “We need to keep better possession on the ball but if we show the same drive and spirit as we did last weekend, we’ll be okay.”
