Water turned off for Queanbeyan residents after 'significant' water leak

Residents of the Queanbeyan suburb of Jerrabomberra may have their water turned off overnight, as council workers attempt to repair a broken pipe.

The pipe has caused a "significant" water leak in the reserve between Rosewood Glen and Jerrabomberra Parkway, the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council said. The broken pipe runs through the reserve.

Water will be switched off at 10pm on Wednesday, December 15. The council said it aimed to have repairs completed by 5am on Thursday, December 16.

"We hope to have the repairs completed by 5am, but will know more about the extent of the damage when we have excavated the broken pipe," the council said.

Residents in streets including Jerrabomberra Parkway, Rosewood Glen, Melrose Place, Poplar Crescent, Birch Way, Maple Crescent, Gabriel Avenue, Brudenell Drive, Walker Crescent, Torpy Place will have their water turned off.

Residences and businesses surrounding streets may also be impacted, including the Jerrabomberra Community Centre and the old shops.

The work site will be located in the reserve between Rosewood Glen and Jerrabomberra Parkway. Residents nearest this site may also be impacted by noise, machinery and lights from the repair site.

Council advised any impacted residents to "fill the kettle, ensure you have sufficient drinking water in the fridge or for any medical needs and consider filling a couple of buckets for toilet flushing throughout the night".

"If your water appears dirty or cloudy in the morning please run your taps for a few minutes until they become clear," a statement read.
