Water tanker hits into Argyllshire flats sparking emergency response

A KEY road through Argyllshire has been closed in both directions after a water tanker hit into roadside flats in a loch-side village.

Police were called out to Chalmers Street, Ardrishaig, on Friday afternoon after reports of a tanker hitting into the building.

According to the police, there have been no reports of any injuries.

While the road is shut police are asking drivers to divert from the A83 via the canal, by using East Bank Road.

One person on the street told the Argyllshire Advertiser: “I was watching TV when I heard a loud rumble. I thought it must have been more than the wind, and when I went to my window, I just said ‘woah!’ – I saw the tanker had crashed into the flats next door.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland told The National: “We received a report of a crash involving one vehicle on Chalmers Street, A83, Ardrishaig, around 1.50pm on Friday, 30 September, 2022.

“There are no reports of any injuries.

“Emergency services are currently in attendance and the A83 is closed in both directions.”
