CHANDIGARH : Work on projects for strengthening sewerage system, laying down underground network of tertiary treated (TT) water throughout the city and connecting all 13 villages transferred to the municipal corporation with 24x7 water supply may start soon. The civic body has prepared a Rs 180-crore project proposal and sent it to the ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoUHA) for release of funds.
The MC prepared the proposal following technical analysis and field exercises, and rough financial estimates have also been made. The rough estimate of TT water supply network is Rs 90 crore, strengthening of sewerage system Rs 21 crore and connecting 13 villages with 2xX7 water supply Rs 60 crore.
Funds have been sought under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (Amrut): 2, a Central government scheme for initiating multiple crucial projects, keeping futuristic development of the city in mind.
The purpose of Amrut is to ensure that every household has access to a tap with the assured supply of water and a sewerage connection. The priority zone of the mission is water supply, followed by sewerage.
“After the financial approval, the detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared by the MC engineering department and then a project management consultant (PMC) will be hired for technical and paper work. The financial proposal was sent to the MoUHA a couple of weeks back,” sources in the MC said.
