Water supply scheme for Aurangabad gets green nod

AURANGABAD: The state wildlife board on Monday gave the green signal to the ongoing new water supply scheme for Aurangabad, providing relief to many, including local government authorities.

The board, in its 18th meeting chaired virtually by chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, cleared the proposal for starting construction works in the Jayakwadi bird sanctuary as part of the scheme.

The Rs 1,680 crore scheme, which will lift water from Nathsagar dam at Paithan that has the Jayakwadi bird sanctuary, now awaits final clearance from the national wildlife board.

Thackeray pressed for speedy clearance to the water supply scheme from the board.

On April 14, TOI had carried a report highlighting the delay in granting official permission to the scheme by the state wildlife board even when one-third of the stipulated time period required for completing the scheme is already over.

The water scheme has received necessary green nod at the state-level just a couple of days before the scheduled public rally of chief minister at Aurangabad on June 8.
