Water sports centre plan for Troon making waves as cash splashed on scheme

Plans to introduce a new water sports hub and community cafe in Troon are now moving “at pace” insist the people behind the proposals.

The group has been boosted with a cash injection of £35,000 from South Ayrshire Council.

The cash is part of a wider scheme aimed at connecting local people and their physical 'place'.

If the plans come to fruition, there’s every chance Troon could become the ‘go-to’ destination for water-specific activities such as kayaking, kite surfing, rowing, dinghy sailing, stand-up paddle boarding, surfing and windsurfing.

Now, not-for-profit charitable organisation, the Troon Water Sports Centre (TWSC), want to hear from the public via a community survey to collect their views on what the project should entail.

Ayrshire Live told back in October 2020 how the organisation plan to establish a main community hub near Port Ranald Drive and a satellite unit near South Beach car park.

It’s also understood the plans could include sheltered changing and shower facilities, entertainment space, equipment and boat storage units and a safe slipway for launch and recovery.

A spokesperson for the group said: “The new water sports hub and community cafe project is moving at pace.

"Working alongside South Ayrshire Council, we have received more funding, identified a site and are producing our planning and lease applications.”

And in a direct appeal to locals, the spokesperson said: “Please help us show high levels of community support for this project by completing the community survey.”

The survey asks 10 questions and should only take a few minutes to complete. It can be accessed at the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/7LXWPQY

The TWSC spokesperson added: “If you would like to be part of this project please do get in touch.”
