POLICE are investigating whether a Sydney man who attempted to enter Swansea Channel by boat has broken current COVID-19 public health orders.
Newcastle Water Police caught the man from Pittwater outside the channel on Monday, saying his intention was to enter Lake Macquarie.
He was prevented from entering and was due to depart back to Sydney on Tuesday. Police were still seeking legal advice regarding the man's possible breach of lockdown rules, which could lead to a hefty penalty infringement notice.
It follows news that four Sydney men entered Queensland on a superyacht and lied on their declaration forms about having been in a hotspot area.
They made the journey north for the rugby test match between the Wallabies and France last week.

The men arrived on the Gold Coast on July 7 and then travelled to Brisbane to watch the match.
Queensland Police have since fined each person $4000 and they have been placed into hotel quarantine.
On Sunday NSW Police State Emergency Operations Controller, Deputy Commissioner Gary Worboys, said people were still making a conscious decision to not stay at home and not comply with the public health orders.
"These examples highlight incredibly selfish and irresponsible behaviour, which we cannot and will not tolerate," Deputy Commissioner Worboys said.
"We have said all along police will be firm but fair, but we are now in the position where we need to be more firm than fair.
"Police will continue to be visible right across the state and we simply ask people to work with us and do the right thing."
