Water park evacuated after 'number of visitors' taken ill

A popular UK water park has been evacuated after a 'number of visitors' were taken ill. Swimmers at Waterworld in Stoke-on-Trent reported 'eye and throat irritation and nausea' this afternoon.

Police, paramedics, an air ambulance and firefighters attended the scene. The attraction has yet to make a comment, reports StokeonTrentLive.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "We are currently in attendance at Waterworld, on Festival Way. Colleagues from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and paramedics are also at the scene following reports of a number of visitors feeling unwell. Visitors have reported eye and throat irritation and nausea.

"The building has been evacuated as a precaution. The emergency services have the incident in hand and urge members of the public to avoid the area. We thank you for your patience and understanding at this time."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We’re currently in attendance at an incident along with police and fire colleagues at Waterworld, Festival Park, Stoke-on-Trent following a call at 1.55pm. A number of ambulances and specialist resources are on scene assessing a number of people who are reported to be feeling unwell . The public are asked to avoid the area at this time to allow 999 staff to deal with the incident."
