Water main bursts spraying hundreds of gallons of water 50ft into the air for more than two hours

A water main burst, sending jets of water shooting into the air in Neath Port Talbot.

The pipe burst near the former Cross Keys Hotel just off Old Road in Skewen.

Gage Anthony Rogers-Barnes, 22, who was standing nearby, said: "As far as I know it started not long before 12.30pm.

"I'd say the water was spraying a good 50ft into the air.

"I was stunned at the sight of it, due to the high and the fact that something like that happened so close to home."

Mr Rogers-Barnes said it stopped gushing before 3pm.

Welsh Water confirmed it sent workers to fix the problem.

A spokesman said:  "We experienced a burst on a water pipe in the Skewen area earlier today.

"We quickly managed to isolate the leak to prevent any impact on customer supplies.  Our team is now planning the repair so that it can be undertaken without any interruptions to supplies."
