KAITHAL: The water level in Ghaggar canal continued to decrease in Haryana's Kaithal district giving some relief to the people of around 50 villages who already have been suffering from the flash floods.
However, the canal water is still two feet above the danger level. It was 26.7 feet on Friday which declined to 25 on Saturday, said officials.
However, around 50 villages of Cheeka town of the district are still suffering from waterlogging in their houses and fields. The routine life has been disrupted badly. Crops have been damaged completely in villages where water is inundated up to four feet, said villagers.
NDRF and army teams are trying to reach out in low laying areas to rescue the stranded people. Army and other personnel deputed to deal with the menace have started health checkup of villagers and fogging is being done in affected areas to avoid any epidemic.
It is expected that water level in Ghaggar will go down if water is not released from back side.
Hardeep Singh, a native of Kaithal district stated that a spell of rainfall reported on Saturday increased tension of common people.
"We were expecting that people will deal the present menace of waterlogging but this fresh rainfall has increased tension of public. The district officials and state government has failed to provide any relief to us but nearly villages and people from Punjab have come forward to extend their help," said Hardeep.
