Water error boosts SA irrigation supplies

River Murray irrigators in South Australia have had their water allocations increased to 55 per cent of full entitlements.

River Murray Minister Karlene Maywald says a review of water sharing arrangements showed South Australia had not received its full share between 2002 and 2009.

"SA fought hard to secure this 40 gigalitres, demanding an independent review of imbalances after suspecting that we'd short-changed under the Murray-Darling Basin Agreement," she said.

New South Wales and Victoria must now deliver 20 gigalitres each, with the extra 40 gigalitres to support the SA allocation increase.

The 55 per cent allowance is a rise from 48 per cent.
