'Watching the situation' - Nottingham Forest name linked with Stoke City job

Former Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka is reportedly keen on becoming the next Stoke City boss.

Nathan Jones is said to be on the brink of the sack with the Potters bottom of the Championship and without a win despite being a pre-season favourite to go up.

Karanka has been out of work since leaving Forest in January, but the Athletic say he is 'watching the situation at Stoke with interest and would be keen on the job if it becomes available'.

Athletic reporter Laurie Whitwell says the club are keen to bring in Republic of Ireland boss Mick McCarthy, but he is not interested in moving before Euro 2020.

Stoke were beaten by Huddersfield on Tuesday night to slip to the bottom of the table, with Jones widely expected to be sacked, but the former Luton boss is still in charge ahead of Saturday's game at Swansea City.
