Watchdog warns of dodgy online pharmacy

Rose Webb says discountepharmacy.com.au customers report paying for orders and not receiving them. (AAP)

The NSW consumer watchdog has sounded alarm bells about an online chemist operated by a suspended pharmacist, after a spike in reports that products ordered never arrive.

The www.discountepharmacy.com.au website, managed by David Le, promotes the sale of various health and wellbeing products, supplements, cosmetics and pain relief medications.

But NSW Fair Trading says customers report paying for orders and not receiving them.

"No explanation is provided by the trader for these delays and that there is no financial redress offered," Commissioner Rose Webb said on Tuesday

"Consumers have reported finding it very difficult to contact anyone at www.discountepharmacy.com.au to discuss the delays and there does not appear to be a complaint handling process, making it difficult for concerns to be resolved."

Fair Trading is investigating the claims but it isn't the first time Mr Le has been in hot water.

His registration as a pharmacist was temporarily suspended in 2017 and two years later the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency prosecuted him for falsely purporting to be a registered pharmacist.

Mr Le plead guilty in the NSW Local Court, was fined $24,500 and remains suspended by AHPRA.

Anyone who has had a bad experience with the discountepharmacy.com.au website is urged to lodge a complaint with NSW Fair Trading.
