We’ve already brought you Anna Calvi and Heritage Orchestra, and Anne-Sophie Mutter playing extracts from The Four Seasons. We conclude our series of exclusive videos of some of the musical highlights of the Edinburgh international festival with something a little unusual.
Sufjan Stevens may be best known for his solo albums, but he’s also written film soundtracks, among them The BQE and Round-Up, a document of the American rodeo. Round-Up was screened in Edinburgh, with the piano and percussion quartet Yarn/Wire performing Stevens’s score live. You can see a part of it below.
“I’m friends with Yarn/Wire,” Stevens said earlier this year. “I’ve seen them play a few times over the last few years in loft spaces. I was drawn to their intensity of performance and the intimacy they have together. Half of the music is scored for them and large parts are electronic and soundscapes from my computer.”
Have a listen and let us know what you think.
