Former first-round draft pick Laquon Treadwell has a second chance with the team that drafted him in 2016, then released him this August.
The Minnesota Vikings (2-1) have signed the former Mississippi wide receiver to a new contract. The team selected the now-24-year-old with the 23rd overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Chad Beebe, the Vikings’ No. 3 receiver and team punt returner, left during the third quarter of Sunday’s eventual 34-14 win versus the Oakland Raiders (1-2). An MRI revealed that the 25-year-old has ligament damage in his ankle, he is expected to be out for several weeks. The injury opens the door for Treadwell’s return.
Treadwell became a free agent in May of this year after the team declined the option year on his rookie contract, then the Vikings released him on Aug. 31.
In 40 games with the Vikings over the course of three seasons, Treadwell made 56 receptions for 517 yards. He has one career touchdown and one fumble.
The Vikings visit the Chicago Bears (2-1) for Week 4.
