If World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg decides to opt-out of his contract with the Washington Nationals, he’ll be riding in Saturday’s championship parade as a free agent.
The 31-year-old has a noon deadline on Saturday, Nov. 2 and according to MLB.com, the Nats celebration parade begins formally two hours later.
Strasburg signed a seven-year, $175 million contract in 2016 and is owned $100 million with four years left on the deal. The right-hander also has the option to opt-out of the deal in 2020.
The pitcher is a career National after the organization selected him first overall in the 2009 MLB Draft out of Stanford. He earned this season’ MVP title by posting a 5-0 record with a 1.98 ERA in six appearances and 47 strikeouts in 36 ⅓ innings over the course of this year’s postseason to help the Nats to their first World Series.
