WATCH: Wishaw street's 'social distance disco' brings light relief during crisis

A Wishaw couple’s ‘social distance disco’ has brought some light relief during the coronavirus crisis.

Sammy Donnelly has been on the decks for more than 20 years and decided to bring his work home with him to Hallinan Gardens.

Sammy’s short set each Thursday around the same time as the Clap for Carers event has cheered up neighbours during lockdown.

And the event is broadcast live on social media by his partner Jacqui Green.

Speaking to the Wishaw Press this week, Jacqui said: “Sammy DJ’s part-time so he decided to do and see how it went.

“Speaking to some neighbours they have said it’s the highlight of their week.

“We do it on Thursday night when the Clap for Carers is on so it’s been getting bigger every week.

“This week we even had a couple of them dressing up which was brilliant.”

Jacqui also revealed the street’s plans as soon as things get back to normal.

“We all agree we are going to have a massive party,” she added.

“I’ve stayed for over 20 years and neighbours have come and gone.

“The one good thing about this situation is that everyone is getting more friendly with each other and that can only be a good thing.”
